Côte d'Azur
Essential documentation for your French Riviera journey
Entry Requirements & Visas
Schengen Area Rules
Must HaveUS, Canadian, Australian, and many other passport holders can enter visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This applies to all Schengen countries including France. Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure date.
Monaco Entry
ImportantIf visiting Monaco from the Côte d'Azur, note that while it's not in the EU, it has an open border with France. No passport check required, but Monaco has separate customs rules—limits on alcohol and tobacco differ from France.
Proof of Onward Travel
RecommendedWhile rarely checked, immigration may ask for proof of return/onward ticket and sufficient funds for your stay. Keep digital copies of hotel reservations and return flights easily accessible.
Health & Vaccine Requirements
No Required Vaccinations
Good NewsFrance requires no specific vaccinations for entry from most countries. Standard travel vaccines (Hepatitis A/B, Typhoid) are generally up to date for most travelers. Check CDC recommendations for your specific situation.
Travel Insurance
Highly RecommendedNot required but strongly advised. France has excellent healthcare, but costs can be high for non-EU visitors. Travel insurance with medical coverage (minimum €30,000) recommended. French health system requires upfront payment, then reimbursement.
Prescription Medications
ImportantBring medications in original containers with prescription labels. Carry a copy of prescriptions with generic drug names—French pharmacies use different brand names. French pharmacies (pharmacies de garde) are widely available and highly professional.
Customs & Financial Requirements
EU Customs Allowances
Know the RulesDuty-free limits from outside EU: 200 cigarettes, 1 liter spirits (over 22% alcohol), 4 liters wine, €430 worth of goods by air. Declare amounts over €10,000 cash. All food products from outside EU must be declared.
Cash Declaration
RequiredMust declare if carrying €10,000 or more in cash (or equivalent) when entering/leaving the EU. This includes traveler's checks and securities. Use customs declaration form—failure to declare can result in fines and confiscation.
